I am an artist on a journey to creating her dream life and inspiring the lives of others with soul-felt designs and illustrations. Whether I am telling a story, or simply bringing visual delight, I favour a whimsical, decorative style and sumptuous colour palettes. The aim of my work is not only to fulfil a purpose, but to invoke joy, gratitude or even a deeper exploration of life and of self. Whether I am illustrating a children’s book, creating wall art, designing surface patterns or anything in-between, my artwork embodies both beauty and substance.
“Mydee Moon” is the inspiration and alter ego of artist, Dee Noney. MyDee’s story as an artist began way back as a small child, she would sit for hours drawing figures and throughout her schooling had a reputation as a talented artist. However life got in the way, she did not pursue an artistic career and it wasn’t till much later in life her passion to create returned.
The next experience of art for MyDee was an immersion into play in a variety of mixed media which lead to an exploration of fine art and painting at university. MyDee discovered her natural talent had not left her, in 2014, she responded to a call out for Design Team Members for a project called “Crafty Crusaders” initiated by Canson Australia. To her shock and delight she was one of the selected few who were chosen to be part of this group, its purpose being to create ideas for product usage, artwork and social media posts to showcase Canson art supplies for a period of twelve months. Whilst studying fine art at university her paintings awarded her “Winner - Art Award” at Busselton Fringe Festival 2015 and “Winner - Emerging Artist” at ENABLE 25th Anniversary Art Exhibition, Bunbury, both in Western Australia. As much as she enjoyed painting and playing with art supplies, what Dee found most joy in creating were her “Wine Fairies” over several years this artist was commissioned to paint close to 50 portraits characterising women, children and even some men as fairies.
Whilst initially these portraits were created in watercolour, MyDee also experimented with acrylic on wood panel and eventually digital painting, which she now works exclusively with. Moving on from the fairies, but still holding onto her whimsical, decorative style the artist is successfully expanding her repertoire and has transitioned from hobbyist to professional illustrator and designer. The MyDee Moon portfolio evidences the ability to illustrate a wide range of subject matter and purpose, from book illustration to surface pattern design. Although her work is created digitally, she mostly favours a less digital look that emulates traditional work and she displays a delightful, sumptuous use of colour.
The MyDee Moon brand is about finding beauty, joy and looking deeper, not just in the art, but also in life and within oneself. MyDee creates every piece, no matter its calling, with love and light. A captivating body of her work is now available for licensing with suitable partners and she can be commissioned for your illustration and design needs.
